Dancer, Teaching Artist, Choreographer
Robin Cantrell is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, and received her early dance training at Midwest Youth Dance Theatre, supplemented by training at North Carolina School of the Arts. She attended the University of Utah as a Willem F. Christensen scholarship recipient, and received a B.F.A. in Ballet performance. Robin has trained with Repertory Dance Theatre, Malashock Dance Company, and The Martha Graham School. Since joining Battery Dance Company in 2008, Robin has had the opportunity to combine her love of performing and teaching with her fascination for learning about other cultures and choreography. Over the past four years she has performed and taught Dancing to Connect workshops as well as ballet and modern dance technique in Algeria, Azerbaijan, Burma, China, Germany, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Namibia, South Korea, Taiwan, Tanzania and Turkey, and with inner city youth at three New York City public high schools. She has choreographed dances that have been presented on BDC programs in New York City, Algeria, Germany and Malaysia. Her choreography has also been performed in Utah, California, New York, New Jersey, and in music videos, and with her own company, Indelible Dance. She is co-director of Trans-continental Dance Collaborative; a company that produces site specific dance films world wide, and is sponsored by Dance Films Association.
Robin says, “Dance means more to me than anything. Performing has always been my passion. When this is coupled with two extraordinary
experiences, (teaching young people and traveling to new destinations),
the result is more fulfilling than I can possibly express in words. That joy
can only be expressed through movement”
